Zhanqiao Pier
Zhanqiao Pier

The Zhanqiao Pier was built in 1892 originally as a wharf and was expanded and repaired twice in 1931 and 1985. The pier is now of a reinforced concrete structure 440 meters long and 8 meters wide.At the south end of the pier, there is a two-storied octagonal pavilion named "hui Lai Ko" (ripple Diverging pavilion) from which you can watch the rolling waves of the sea. In order to protect it, they built a hemisphere breakwater beside the pavilion. When the sea wave rush to the bank, the breakwater hampers it to where it come naturally. This is why the Huilan Pavilion (Huilan Ge) get its name. At the north end of the pier you can take a rest in the park and enjoy the beautiful ornamental flowers and Japanese black pines.

Anyone who has been to Qingdao, or checked her beer labels, will not fail to recall Zhanqiao Pier (zhanqiao), the symbol of the city. This is an obvious destination for anyone wishing to complete their Qingdao experience.
