The Bund
The symbol of old and new Shanghai, the Bund (officially known as Zhongshan Road) is Shanghai's most famous landmark, alongside Huangpu River which wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River in Wusong to the East China Sea. Being four kilometers long, the Bund has long been one of the most important areas in Shanghai.
The Bund is often referred to as "the museum of buildings", as many different styles of European buildings can be found here. The most famous and attractive sight which is at the west side of the Bund are the 52 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. Those art-like buildings were built hundreds of years ago, when consulates of most countries and many banks, businesses and newspaper offices were settled here. In the 1930s, the row of buildings was host to the city's financial and commercial centers and the world's greatest banks and trading empires established a base here. At night you can enjoy the spectacular city lights, really a beautiful and colorful sight which is worth visiting.
