Kashgar Ancity City

Hannuoyi Old City was one of ancient times Kashi cities, located at about 30 kilometers from eastern Kashi suburb. The town has a history of over 1,500 years and was really in prosperity in Tang, Song period. It is estimated that it was destroyed after 11 centuries. On its northern hillside are the Mogao Buddhist temple ruins. And under the hillside are disused ancient Kaner wells.

"Hannuoyi" means palace in Uyghur, which is believed to be the sit of the capital of Shule Kingdom in the Western Regions in ancient times. Some further believe that the place was the site of the capital city of Kalahan Kingdom in its initial period. The city was designated as the autonomous region level cultural relic protection unit.

The ruins are approximately 10 kilometers long from east to west and 9 meters wide from north to south, having a total area of about 60 square kilometers. It consists of city wall, remnant forts, houses, manual workshops, places for holding religious activities, canals and so on. There is a square shape small city in the middle of the site with an area of 9,000 square meters, the remaining city wall of which is 5 to 6 meters high and 7 meters thick. On the northwest corner of the small city stands a military fortress, whose wall is still obviously seen today. There is a 5-meter wide gate on its Southeast and Northwest respectively. The city is possibly lived by rulers of ancient Shule Kingdom, the genuine location of Hannuoyi-palace.
