MuTianYu Great Wall
MuTianYu Great Wall, located in Huairou County, 79 kilometers northeast of Beijing City, is northern protective screen. It winds 22 kilometers along the steep ridge of mountains, connecting Juyongguan Pass in the west and Gubeikou Great Wall in the east.
MuTianYu Great Wall has a longer history than BaDaling Great Wall, originally built in Northern Qi Dynasty (550 -557). In Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), it was rebuilt by two renowned patriotic generals Tan Lun and Qi Jiguang. So it is capable of withstanding a fierce attack.
The MuTianYu Great Wall was mainly built with granite, with 7-8 meters in height and 4-5 meters in width. 22 watchtowers are distributed along the wall, about one every kilometer.
Parapets were designed on both inner and outer sides of the wall to defend against enemies climb up from two sides. Some parapets were crenellated with merlons, different from traditional rectangular form. Another distinction is the square embrasures the top of which were designed in an arc structure instead of round structure.
Additionally, the scenery along the wall is attractive. The green carpets of grasses with flourishing green trees and booming flowers decorate the wall strikingly charming.
